The British-Swedish Chamber of Commerce was formed in 1954 by Marcus Wallenberg, founder of SEB, one of Sweden’s major banks. The objective of the Chamber is to promote, study, extend, advance and protect commercial and industrial relations between Sweden and the United Kingdom.
In order to achieve, and further develop, our networking aim, we create a forum for all our members to meet and exchange experiences and ideas. The Chamber arranges breakfasts, lunches and dinners, to which we invite executive speakers to talk about highly topical issues. We arrange seminars with panels debating a wide range of international topics. We promote contacts with influential leaders of industrial, political and economic life. We also arrange company visits.
The British-Swedish Chamber of Commerce is an independent, non-political and non-profit association based in Stockholm. The Chamber is managed by a Secretary General and a Board of Directors, consisting of a Chairman and 17 Directors. The Directors are supported by a group of 14 Patrons. Together the Board of Directors and the Patrons represent a wealth of, domestic and international, experience and expertise in the most significant businesses in Sweden.
The prime aim of the Chamber is to develop and further establish business connections with member companies, though not solely among members. The Chamber also actively strives to promote, and maintain, an extensive contact with other influential organisations.
Members, as well as other Chambers of Commerce, embassies and selected companies and organisations in Sweden and the UK, regularly receive the BSCC newsletter, The Network, in which the latest about the BSCC and its members is highlighted. Current issues regarding our two countries are always discussed. An incentive programme is also offered to our members in which members are offered the use of the services of other member companies at a discounted rate.
The Annual British-Swedish Business Directory lists all members of the BSCC and provides details of their activities. The Directory also contains valuable facts, figures and business information relevant to commercial activities in both countries.
Today the British-Swedish Chamber of Commerce count around 130 members, both Swedish and British companies, as well as subsidiaries. The membership fees are directly related to the turnover of the company. Application for membership can be made to the Board of the Chamber.
