GB Experience in Czech Republic

Experience Great Britain – a unique event hosted by the British Chamber of Commerce in the Czech Republic

Great Britain Experience, Prague, March 17On 23 March, the British Chamber of Commerce (BCC) in the Czech Republic organised a British Market, which was aptly named Experience Great Britain. The event took place on Malostranske namesti, one of Prague’s main squares, and nearly 10,000 people attended.

Here, the public was given a chance to have a ‘taste of Britain’ at numerous stalls offering a wide selection of British foods and drink. For a spot of British-themed entertainment, a host of cultural performances were put on by British schools and the Prague Shakespeare Company (with a guest appearance from the British Ambassador to the Czech Republic, Jan Thompson, OBE) and a musical treat provided by the Czech Highland bagpipe and drum group, The Rebel Pipers.

In addition, The Grevin Wax Museum in Prague, which was one of the partners of the event, used the occasion to unveil its statue of the Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II (pictured above). Naturally, this amazingly life-like figure piqued the visitors’ interest, and many of them queued up to take a picture with 'The Queen'. Also in the spirit of the event, British flags were seen flying on the Czech Parliament building, which is located right by the square, which further enhanced the colourful atmosphere of the market.

“For the first time in our 20 year history, the Chamber has won the main COBCOE award. We feel very honoured, considering for the past two years we have received the Best Small Chamber Award for 2015 and 2016, respectively. This is going to be a rather nice present for our 20th anniversary, which we will be celebrating this year,” said Marcela Černochová, Managing Director of BCC in the Czech Republic.
